Info

Snail’s ‘Make Your Mark’ project used the form of arborglyphs (tree carvings) to engage and involve local people in the creation of a collective public artwork.

Snail is an interdisciplinary artist using sculpture, textiles, print, photography and performance to investigate ideas of power and dominance. Snail’s work explores identity and belonging within and between the human and more-than-human worlds.

Through this project, Snail explored the local green spaces in Marsh Farm, finding arborglyphs and documenting them. Workshops brought local people together and encouraged them to question their relationship with their environment. ‘Make Your Mark’ culminated in collective placemaking where participants created tiles adorned with messages, drawings and personal reflections.

Check out the audio recording below of people talking about their inspiration for their tiles. Hear them tell the meaning behind their little pieces of artwork that collectively make one large ceramic installation.

This artwork is currently installed publicly within Marsh Farm on the premises of the Marsh House Community Centre.
