Is this for me?

Open to Lutonians of all ages who are happy to take part in a 60-minute countryside walk with hills. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Info

Come and explore some of the beautiful countryside that surrounds Luton.

Poet Lee Nelson invites you to take a walk on the ancient hilltops and descend to the holy-wells of Barton Springs.

Along the way you will be invited to participate in a series of creative activities in response to the landscape. Your contributions will then be part of shaping the poetry collection by Lee Nelson to celebrate and connect local residents to their local green spaces.

How do I get to Barton Hills?

There will be a minibus service available from a town-centre location in Luton. Please indicate on your booking form whether you’d like to reserve a space on the minibus or whether you plan to make your own travel arrangements.

How strenuous will the walk be?

The walk involved a steep ascent and descent lasting approximately 60 minutes and should only be undertaken by participants who feel fit and well enough to take part.

I don’t think the walk is for me – is there another way I can get involved in the project?

Yes, Lee Nelson will be hosting a seated outdoor picnic at Waluuds Bank on Wednesday 11 September. Find out more here.

What clothes should I wear?

Please wear sturdy shoes and outdoor clothing suitable for weather conditions on the day.

Will refreshments be available?

A selection of light, vegetarian refreshments will be provided.

Do I need to be an artist/poet to take part?

No this event is open to anyone who is interested in exploring the green spaces surrounding Luton. You will be guided through all creative activities at your own pace by Lee and the facilitation team.

Will I have to read poetry I create in front of others?

No, any responses you create that you’d like to share with Lee can be uploaded via a QR code provided at the event.
